UPDATE: Orange man named after fatal 1-vehicle wreck in Nederland

NEDERLAND — Update:

According to Darrell Bush with the Nederland Police Department, James Lacy Francis, 58, of Orange, was killed in a one-vehicle wreck on US 69 Tuesday around 8 p.m.

Previous reporting:

A 58-year-old Orange man was killed Tuesday after he lost control of his vehicle and landed in a ditch in the 1500 block of US 69 in Nederland.

Nederland police arrived to the one-vehicle wreck and found that a 2007 Mini Cooper had been driven into the ditch between the retaining wall that separates the north and southbound lanes of US 69.

According to a press release, the vehicle appeared to have overturned several times and witnesses at the scene claim that the vehicle passed them at a high rate of speed and appeared to lose control.

The man was thrown from the vehicle, the press release said.

The driver's name is being witheld pending notification of family.

Marc Derouen, Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2, is conducting an inquest and has ordered an autopsy of the body.
