Pleasure Island erosion reaches crisis point

— Efforts to shore up a section of road at Pleasure Island could cost the city of Port Arthur more than half a million, and that’s just a start to stop erosion problems.

City Council at its regular meeting Tuesday will consider spending $600,000 from the general fund to purchase rip rap material for placement near T.B. Ellision Parkway, where the road is in danger of caving in.

If approved, the permanent cover of rock used to stabilize shorelines would be a temporary measure — one utilized to stop what has reached crisis point, John Beard, District 5 councilman, said.
