Phelan leading early in District 21 race

PORT ARTHUR — Beaumont real estate developer Dade Phelan is leading the District 21 State Representative race with 58 percent of the early votes reported compared to Nederland small business owner Judy Nichol’s 42 percent. According to the Secretary of State’s web site, one of 35 total precincts in Orange County has tallied eary votes. None of the 41 precincts in Jefferson County have yet reported.

Dade as of 8:31 p.m. was leading in early voting 2,544 to Nichols’ 1,845 votes

Both will be vying for the state representative seat held the last 16 years by Allan Ritter, who announced in October he would not see re-election.

District 21 includes a portion of Jefferson County — Groves, Port Neches and Nederland — and all of Orange County.
