PORT ARTHUR —
A man is dead after an early morning shooting on Valentine’s Day in Port Arthur.
A passerby alerted police to a “man down” at 1:13 a.m. Feb. 14 in the 800 block of Ninth Street, Port Arthur Police Sgt. Scott Gaspard said.
Officers found the victim, Eric Darnell Noel, 29, of Port Arthur, suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was brought to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, where he later died. PAPD detectives are continuing the investigation, but a suspect had not been identified as of Friday afternoon.
Justice of the Peace Nancy Beaulieu, Jefferson County Precinct 1 Place 2, is conducting an inquest into the death and has ordered an autopsy.
Noel’s death is the third homicide in the city this year.
The first occurred Sunday, Jan. 5, in front of Speak Easy Lounge, 711 Procter St. The victim, Marcus Antonio Elmore, 32, died from a gunshot wound.
Police believe the shooting was in self defense.
Multiple witnesses on scene told police that Elmore was shot after pointing a handgun at a patron outside of the bar and the patron lawfully defended himself, according to a story that ran in the Jan. 7 edition of the Port Arthur News.
PAPD investigated a murder/suicide at a home in the 2800 block of Beldon on Saturday, Feb. 1.
The bodies of Jimmie Jenkinson, 47, and Angelique Jenkinson, 44, were found in their home by a family friend after the couple didn’t show up for an appointment, according to a press release from PAPD.
Police said there had been domestic violence allegations at the home in the past.
The husband, Jimmie Jenkinson, was a former Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy, while his wife was a former Realtor.
