BPD working to identify suspect in sexual assaults

BEAUMONT — Beaumont Police Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man possibly connected to three separate sexual assaults in the north end of town.

The first assault occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 5. At about 12:25 a.m., the victim pulled into the parking lot of the Regent Apartments located in the 1800 block of Regent Street. She exited her car and turned around to reach for something in the back seat. The suspect caught her unaware as he approached from behind.  He robbed her of money and her cell phone, assaulted her in the parking lot, and then fled the area on foot, according to a press release from BPD.

The second assault occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 24. At about 1:55 a.m., the victim stepped out of a friend’s apartment in the back parking lot of the Ashley Square Apartments located in the 1100 block of Seventh Street. As the victim was making a phone call, the suspect caught her unaware as he approached her from behind. He stole her phone then forced her into a patio area of an apartment. He assaulted her in the fenced-in patio area and then fled the area on foot.

The third assault occurred in the late evening hours of Wednesday, July 2. At about 11:05 p.m., the victim was inside her apartment at the Autumn Cove apartment complex located in the 3900 block of Eastex Freeway. She was watching television and had the front door to the apartment slightly cracked open. The suspect entered the unsecured apartment, attempted to rob her of money, and then assaulted her inside the apartment. He then fled on foot when the victim was able to escape and yell for help.

The victims in these assaults gave very similar descriptions of the suspect, which leads detectives to believe the same man possibly committed them. Victims described the suspect as a black man, early to mid twenty’s, about 5 -foot 9-inches to 5-foot 10-inches tall, thin build, clean shave, with dark skin.

They further said that he had very distinctive eyes, which they described as large and bulging, as well as a distinctive wide flat nose. In each assault, he wore a gray sweatshirt described as a hoodie. During two of the assaults, he wore a dark colored cap with fur on the brim and earflaps that hung down.  In one of the assaults, he wore a dark colored ski style hat. In all three assaults, he threatened the victims with a dark handgun.

BPD urges all citizens to be on the lookout for this man. If anyone has information that could lead to the identity of this suspect, they are asked to call BPD’s Special Crimes Unit at 880-3840. You may also give anonymous tips to CrimeStoppers at 833-TIPS.
