Warrant issued for woman for probation violation in child shooting case

ORANGEFIELD — A motion to revoke probation warrant has been issued for a woman charged with endangering a child.

Melissa Ann Ringhardt, 19, reportedly violated the terms of the probation she received in court for the original offense that occurred on Oct. 21, 2013, according to a press release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The warrant was issued for her arrest on June 25 when Ringhardt failed to follow the conditions of her probation. John Read, 5, accidentally shot himself in the head with a .40 caliber gun that his baby-sitter had reportedly left on a coffee table while she went to another room to take a nap on Oct. 21, 2013.

Ringhardt reached a plea agreement on the case and was sentenced with probation by the court.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has attempted to locate Ringhardt without success so far. It is believed she could be in the Dallas area, but she has yet to be located.
