Benefit for PN’s Duhon set for Saturday

PORT NECHES — Friends and family of Steven Duhon are hosting a benefit to help the Port Neches man with medical expenses related to his battle with cancer.

Duhon was diagnosed in late February with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and is currently undergoing both chemotherapy and radiation treatments, his brother Joe Duhon said.

The benefit is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Nederland Heritage Festival pavilion on Boston Avenue. There will be live music until 2:30 p.m. and a live auction begins at 3 p.m. A silent auction will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will also be a raffle and four winners will be drawn. First prize is a shotgun autographed by the Robertson family of Duck Dynasty fame; second prize is an autographed Tracy Byrd guitar; third place is a Ruger M77 Mark II .204 rifle and fourth prize is a Shimano Curado reel and Falcon rod.

Leslie Little, longtime family friend, said Steve Duhon, 49, has insurance but his deductible is an exorbitant amount.

“He’s very educated, a very fun loving guy. Kind of a free spirit,” Little said. “This (benefit) is very humbling for him. He told his brother that if this (cancer) has to be then at least he can bring people closer to God.”

Steve Duhon has lived in the Philippines for the past five years teaching English and he has a wife and a 4-year-old son. His wife is still in the Philippines and the family is in the process of trying to bring her to the U.S.

The benefit on Saturday will also feature barbecue dinners and a washer tournament.

Donations for Steve Duhon can be made at MCT Credit Union account number 27775519.
