PA man dies in Orange County head-on collision

ORANGE — A Port Arthur man is dead following a head-on collision that occurred Sunday.

Orange County Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the crash scene at about 9:20 p.m. June 29 on Texas 62 at Tulane, according to a press release from DPS.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that a 2008 Toyota Tacoma truck, driven by Stevan Shonn Smith, 27, of Orange, was traveling south on Texas 62 and reportedly failed to drive in a single lane and struck a northbound 2014 Nissan Versa head-on, which was driven by Richard Shelvin, 74, of Port Arthur.

Smith was transported to Orange Baptist hospital and a passenger that was traveling with Smith was transported to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.

Both Shelvin and his passenger were transported to St. Elizabeth’s in Beaumont where Shelvin was pronounced deceased.

The condition of the other occupants is unknown at this time. This crash remains under investigation.
