PORT ARTHUR —
Throw on some shorts and flip-flops it’s time for Southern Summer Night.
This year’s annual event will feature a meal prepared by the Golden Triangle Chef’s Association, a live auction and music by The Classics Recovered Band and The Group J.A.G.
Southern Summer Night will be from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Carl Parker Multipurpose Center, 1800 Lakeshore Drive. Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased through Friday.
Marian Ruiz, chairperson of the event, said “it’s going to be so much fun.”
“This is a very casual event,” Ruiz said. “Grab your shorts and flip-flops or sun dress. It will be an evening of dancing, live auction, dinner, drinks, fellowship. The music will show a wide assortment of genres. They’ll be line dancing, country dancing, slow dancing, something for everyone.”
Proceeds from the event are split between the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce programs and the Port Arthur International Seafarer’s Center.
The event itself has been around for decades through several name changes. What once was Shrimp Fest changed to Cayman Night and now, for the second year in a row, Southern Summer Night.
Paige Snyder, membership director ad events coordinator, said there will be seating for 400 at the event.
