Shot fired during domestic disturbance

PORT ARTHUR — A single shot was fired into the ceiling of a home in the 3200 block of 19th Street and police are working to find out if the shooting was intentional or accidental.

Port Arthur Police responded to the home on 19th Street near Fourth Avenue at around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. No one was injured during the incident although a female fainted and was treated at the scene.

PAPD Sgt. Scott Gaspard said three people were inside the home at the time of the incident — a woman, her husband and an adult son. A second adult son was outside the home during the shooting.

A shot was fired toward the ceiling by the husband  who told police he felt he was under attack, Gaspard said. Other witnesses told police a different version of the story.

“Neighbors said they saw someone come out of the house with a rifle but we didn’t find a rifle,” he said.

Police are working to find out exactly what happened and identify the aggressor in the incident. By law, police are required to prevent future violence, he added.

PAPD has made several calls to the home in the past.
