Sunny skies forecast for Easter


— • NEDERLAND — The 12th Annual Community Easter Festival is scheduled for 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19 at Doornbos Park in Nederland.

There will be free prizes of Easter baskets and bikes as well as a cakewalk, dunking booth, Easter Egg hunt, free food, jump houses and a concert. The Easter Bunny will be in attendance.

The event is sponsored by First Baptist Church Nederland. For more information, call 722-0263.

• Central Baptist Church, 4545 Highway 73, will hold an Easter egg hunt at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19. Bring your basket! Rain or shine. For children: babies through fifth grade

• GROVES — Groves First United Methodist Church will host its annual Bunny Breakfast and Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19 at the church, 6501 Washington.

Breakfast will be served from 9 to 9:45 a.m. followed by crafts, story time egg dying, games and a chance to visit with the Easter Bunny during the morning. Organizers ask parents to bring their cameras.

A giant Easter Egg hunt will follow the activities.

• PORT NECHES — The 46th Annual Easter Sunrise service will be held at the riverfront pavilion in Port Neches riverfront Park at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, April 20.

The program will include a welcome by the Port Neches Chamber of Commerce and posting of colors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4820 and the Pledge of Allegiance by Dennis Gordy.

The invocation will be delivered by the Rev. Wesley Welborn, First United Methodist Church, Port Neches; sermon by the Margaret Desmond of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Port Neches; and benediction by the rev. David Birdsong of Southside Baptist Church, Port Neches.

Music will be provided by Kelly Grace and Kay Doucet with Trinity Presbyterian Church, Port Neches.

Coffee and refreshments will be served by the VFW Auxiliary of Port Neches before the service.

The public is invited to attend the sunrise service and encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
