PORT ARTHUR —
Locals will meet Hollywood on screen when the movie Hellion hits Central Mall 10 Dickinson Theater on Tuesday.
And while the showing is already sold out, the theater has decided to open the film for a one week run beginning June 27, according to Producer Kelly Williams.
The movie was shot in the Mid-County area and features Juliette Lewis, of “Natural Born Killers” fame, and “Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul. The stars were spotted everywhere from the HEB in on FM 365 to Good Times Pub in Port Arthur while they filmed the independent film produced by Port Neches-Groves High School graduate Kelly Williams.
The director is Kat Candler, whose credits include Sundance Film Festival selections Hellion and Black Metal.
Williams and Candler visited Port Neches City Council on March 21, 2013 to inform council of their desire to film a majority of the movie in the city.
The film, which is to be based on a six-minute film Hellion and screened at SXSW Film Fest, was shot last year.
“A crew member thought that this world (Hellion) was in Port Neches,” Candler said during the meeting, adding that she then learned Williams was a native of the city. “We came to visit and loved it. It inspired us to take a six minute short film to a 90 minute movie.”
The Internet Movie Database features the following plot description — “When motocross and heavy metal obsessed thirteen-year-old Jacob's increasing delinquent behavior forces Child Protective Services to place his little brother, Wes, with his aunt, Jacob and his emotionally absent father, Hollis, must finally take responsibility for their actions and for each other in order to bring Wes home.”
