PA man killed in early morning auto-pedestrian accident

BRIDGE CITY — A 29-year-old Port Arthur man died early Wednesday as a result of a auto-pedestrian accident in Bridge City.

According to a press statement issued by Bridge City Police, at about 2:40 a.m. Bridge City Police were called to Texas 73, just south of the LaQuinta Inn.

Brandy Lee Purkey, according to police investigations, had walked into the westbound lane of traffic and was struck by a Dodge van and Ford pickup.

Purkey was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Janice Menard.

Bridge City police indicated the roadway leading to the Rainbow Bridge was closed for about three hours while police reconstructed the accident.

The victim, police said, was alone. Foul play is not expected.

An autopsy has been ordered, and the investigation is ongoing.
