Man, young daughter drown in Beaumont pool

The Port Arthur News

BEAUMONT — Detectives in Beaumont are searching for answers to determine how a man and his daughter drowned in a south end pool.

At about 10:40 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, Beaumont Police Department patrol officers responded to a reported drowning in the wading pool of the Alice Keith Park located in the 4000 block of Reed Street, according to a press release from BPD.

A City of Beaumont maintenance worker was checking the grounds when he saw a man floating face down in the wading pool. The worker approached and saw that the arm of a child was sticking out from underneath the man. The worker immediately called 911.

Beaumont EMS and Fire Department personnel attempted to resuscitate the man and child at the scene.  They then rushed the two to the Baptist Hospital Emergency Room where ER personnel pronounced them dead.

Detectives identified the man as 31-year-old Traveth Quinn and the child was his daughter, 3-year-old Legend Quinn. Both were residents of Beaumont.

Circumstances surrounding the drowning are suspicious and detectives are working to determine how Traveth and Legend entered the locked facility and how they spent their morning prior to going to the pool.  Detectives are interviewing neighbors who live near the pool as well as family members of Traveth and Legend.

Justice of the Peace Ransom Jones has ordered autopsies, which will be performed on Friday.
