Denny’s throughout Houston will host a special benefit night in honor of Robert Greig Placette, a local hero and veteran who was killed on Aug. 26.
The event is scheduled for 4 to 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23.
Placette, a Port Arthur native, was president and owner of Houston General Trading Company, an active community volunteer and a husband, father and grandfather.
Participating Houston Denny’s will donate 25 percent of all benefit night sales to the Robert Greig Placette Memorial Fund. Guests can also visit any Wells Fargo branch location nationwide to make a financial contribution to the fund.
“The outpouring of support for Greig and his fearless actions has been overwhelming,” said Judy Barreras, Houston Denny’s franchisee. “The effects of this heartbreaking event can be felt all across Texas – even throughout the nation – and we hope this benefit night will provide much-needed assistance to Greig’s family.”
Placette was killed on the evening of Aug. 26 while successfully attempting to shield and protect children during an armed robbery.
“Our hearts are heavy with the tragic loss of such a courageous and honorable hero, mentor and gentleman,” said John Miller, chief executive officer of Denny’s Corp. “We hope that with this benefit night we are able to help Greig’s family through this difficult time and make a difference in a community that so loved and cherished him.”
