PORT ARTHUR — A political action committee will hold a protest rally at the Port Arthur Independent School District administration building, 4801 9th Ave., at 3 p.m. today.

The Port Arthur Political Action Front will voice its concerns regarding security at Memorial High School. Recently, a special-needs student was attacked by at least six boys. In the same week, a brother and sister claimed they were also attacked at the high school.

"We acknowledge there have been some incidents that have occurred on the campus," said PAISD Deputy Superintendent Mark Porterie. "Mr. Rice, principal of Memorial High School, has overseen the investigation of each incident and has followed the district's discipline policy in dealing with the students."

Regarding security, Porterie said that there are functional cameras on Memorial's campus.

"The entire staff is working together to ensure that every child is safe on the campus," he said.
