PA names five “persons of interest” in city manager search

PORT ARTHUR — Port Arthur City Council members have pared down the list of candidates seeking the city manager position, having identified five applicants described as “persons of interest.”

City Council stopped short of declaring any of the candidates as finalists.

“These candidates we have had the opportunity to view on video; we have not met them, but they do sound interesting,” Mayor Deloris “Bobbie” Prince, said in a telephone interview Thursday.

City Council reviewed the group presented in closed session Tuesday at their regular meeting, and plan to further review them before announcing finalists, or they could not select any of them, Harold Doucet, mayor pro tem, said Thursday in a telephone interview.

The five listed in alphabetical order are: Corby Alexander, Floyd Johnson, Gregory Rose, Isaac Turner, and Rebecca Underhill.

Alexander is currently the city manager of Bonham, Texas, and was city manager of Jefferson, Texas prior to that, from 2003 unitl 2007.

Johnson is currently director of North West District, Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency. He was city manager for the city of Fort Lauderdale from 1998-2003, and city manager in Richmond, Calif. from 1994 to 1998.

Rose is currently president of Rose Consulting Group, LLC, a group that provides consulting services to local governments and other organizations on visioning, strategic planning, staffing analysis, leadership training, and budgeting.

He was city administrator from January 2011 to October 2011 for the city of Hyattsvile, Md., and city manager for North Las Vegas, Nev. from 2003 until 2009.

Turner currently serves as church administrator for the First Baptist Church Venice. He was city manager from 2009 until 2011 for the city of Venice, Fla., and from 2001 until 2008 with the city of Ormond Beach, Fla.

From November 1997 until November 2000, Turner was city manager for the city of McKinney, Texas.

Underhill currently serves as assistant city manager/administration for the city of Port Arthur, a position she has held from October 2008 until present.

During her 20 years with the city of Port Arthur, Underhill also served as finance director, from 1995 until 2009; and accounting manager from 1992 until 1995.
