GROVES — Two Port Arthur men are in jail after police say they discovered 30 grams of crack cocaine and more than $8,800 in cash after a traffic stop in Groves.

At about 11:13 p.m. Thursday, Deputy Tony Phillips of the Groves Police Department saw a vehicle perform a traffic violation in the 2200 block of Main Avenue. Deputy Phillips and Deputy Droddy stopped the vehicle and identified the two occupants.

The driver had a parole warrant and Deputy Phillips ordered him out of the car. The driver then attempted to drive away. The deputies pursued the car to the area of Main Avenue and 17th Street where the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputy Phillips detained the passenger at the scene and Deputy Droddy apprehended the driver in a drainage ditch.

Further investigation led to the discovery of the drugs and the cash.

The driver was identified as Eric Linton of Port Arthur and the passenger was identified as Brent Shelton Jr., also of Port Arthur.

Lenten is charged with possession of a controlled substance over four grams, a second-degree felony, and evading detention with a vehicle, a state jail felony, as well as the parole warrant.
