Gas prices are going up. Food prices are going up. Just about everything is going up. So The Port Arthur News is looking for ways for subscribers and residents to save a little money.

The News is now offering online viewers coupons which can be redeemed at numerous area merchants, particularly at grocery stores and retailers.

A yellow coupon banner in the middle of the www.panews.com homepage will direct users to a special section offering several pages of coupons that can be used to help reduce grocery bills when shopping.

“We have the capability of offering coupons, coupons, coupons,” The News publisher Roger Underwood said.

Coupons offer discounts for items such as over-the-counter medication, frozen foods and vegetables, canned goods, cereal, hair products, etc.

“You go to our front page, click the banner for free coupons, put in your ZIP code, and numerous pages come up,” Underwood said. “There’s around 100 coupons (each week) for everyday shopping. Brand name items you regularly buy at grocery stores. It’s a great way for saving money.”

Underwood further explained the program for the coupons easily sets up and the coupons are ready to print.

Coupons may be sent each week to registered users with the most popular offers highlighted.

There is also a tab for recipes on the site with access to more than 55,000 recipes. As an added feature, if one of the ingredients of the recipe matches a word associated with one of the available coupons, the word will be highlighted and when you move your mouse over it, the coupon will appear.

Underwood figures folks will use the coupons to buy their groceries and then try them out in some of the recipes.

Users can save as much as $258 per month with these coupons, depending on which coupons are used and what location the coupons are redeemed.

“We’re glad to offer these to the public,” Underwood said.
