The News staff writer PORT NECHES — As sports fans of the world turn their attention to China and the beginning of the Olympics Friday, Maggie Mouton will celebrate an event of even bigger proportion — to her at least. The Highland Park Elementary student will turn 8-years-old Friday, Aug. 8, 2008. “Eight is my lucky number,” she said after pausing the Disney Channel to talk. Mouton said she realized about the once in a lifetime happening last year on July 7 (7-7-07). “She talks about her birthday all year long though,” mom, Melanie said. To celebrate, the family will take a trip to Kemah where the birthday girl is excited to get to ride the train again. “The train is my favorite,” she said of the popular Kemah attraction. Maggie said she’s been to the vacation spot before and hopes to eat her birthday dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. Melanie Mouton said she realized early in her children’s lives that birthday parties over the summer were nearly an impossible task. Maggie’s older sister, Anna, has a birthday in July. “We learned that doesn’t work well,” she said of trying to gather school friends for a party. “We just take special trips for each of them.” But Maggie’s not upset about it. She’s not even worried that the Olympics will take attention away from her. “I’m not a big Olympic fan,” she confessed. To keep with the lucky number eight, Maggie said her dad, Eric, is going to let her scratch off some lottery tickets.
