Heathe Aaron Stagg of Groves, one of two suspects in the April 2007 robbery of a Nederland convenience store that led to the shooting of a Port Arthur Police officer, was convicted by a Jefferson County jury.
Stagg pled guilty to aggravated robbery, burglary and criminal mischief and will be sentenced for the crimes on Aug. 25 in Judge John Stevens courtroom.
In June, Richard Lee Killgore Jr. of Port Arthur pled guilty to aggravated robbery and aggravated assault on a police officer. He was sentenced to two 20 year prison terms to be served concurrently.
Stagg and Killgore are believed to have robbed Touchdown convenience store in Nederland in April 2007. The duo then led police on a massive manhunt through the brushy area in the 4700 block of Ninth Avenue near the Jefferson County Drainage District 7 pump station.
Tomie Gipson, a PAPD patrol officer, was shot as he attempted to apprehend the two men. The injury was not life threatening and Gipson soon returned to work. Police said the shot went through Killlgore’s jaw and into the officer’s thigh.
