It’s now official. Mary Jean George and Kenneth Lofton were sworn in as Port Arthur Independent School District board trustees after votes were canvassed at Monday’s special meeting.
Lofton was the top vote-getter in the May 10 election and George came in next in the vote count.
George is a former board trustee and thanked everyone who helped get her elected.
“I’m still kind of stunned to be in this position again. I look forward to working on the board,” George said.
Lofton said he was still in shock after being elected.
“I see some of my former teachers here and I know they’re proud. I have family and friends here. I want to make Port Arthur a better school district the next three years I’m here (on the board),” Lofton said.
A new board president, vice president and secretary were also elected.
Lloyd Marie Johnson was chosen as president over Gregory Flores on a 5 to 2 vote. Kenneth Marks was chosen unanimously as vice president and Theo Victor was a unanimous choice for secretary.
Johnson thanked the board for the confidence they have in her to elect her board president.
