PN Police Chief Marsh set to retire Mary Meaux The Port Arthur News PORT NECHES — Longtime Port Neches Police Chief Gene Marsh has announced plans to retire later this month.
Marsh, a 38 year veteran of the PNPD, joined the force February 1970. His official last day will be May 23, he said. “I have mixed feelings,” he said. “I feel good about the condition of the city and the department as I leave in the middle of some major projects.” The chief moved up in ranks, beginning with patrol then investigator, sergeant, lieutenant and captain. He was appointed chief in 1995. PNPD has 18 officers including the chief of police. City Manager Randy Kimler will announce an interim chief next week. Per city charter, the city manager hires department heads and the city council confirms the appointment. Leaving after nearly four decades as a peace officer can be bittersweet. “I’ve enjoyed my career,” he said. “And I feel I’ve fulfilled God’s purpose for me in life.” A reception for Marsh will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, May 23 in the courtroom at the police station. The public is invited.
