Port Arthur firefighters were kept busy with two businesses which were evacuated for separate reasons, plus a breaker box fire in Sabine Pass Friday morning.
Battalion Chief Patrick Murphy said firefighters responded to a call of a major gas leak at Gulf Coast Nursing Home, 6600 Ninth Ave., about 7:59 a.m. Jan. 9. One part of the center was isolated and staff and patients evacuated.
Murphy said the leak was related to installation of a gas line at the construction of the new Memorial High School. Pressure in the line built up and caused a valve to leak at the nursing home.
At 8:02 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire at Burger King in which a light fixture fell into a deep fryer, he said.
Minutes later, at 8:12 a.m., firefighters were called to Sabine Pass to the site of Beacon Marine, 8490 South First St., for a fire at a breaker box outside the facility.
Then, at 9:15 a.m., PAFD responded to a fire alarm call at the Department of Human Services, 5860 Ninth Ave. Upon arrival firefighters found smoke in the building and evacuated the facility. The problem was caused by a problem with an air conditioning motor, he said.
