LETTERS: Come together for Prayer and Praise 2015

Published 3:01 pm Monday, June 15, 2015

The time has come again for the people of this area to come together and pray.  The activity began as a way to seek God’s guidance in our effort to help our area be what it should be.  The setting for the activity this year is to be at the United Methodist Temple located at 4101 Highway 73, Port Arthur, at 7 p.m. on June 28, the fourth Sunday in this month.
This is a time when citizens in this area gather to pray and sing songs of praise to God.  The Bible tells us in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that; “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal the land.”  Our land is in need of healing!  James 5:16 also says; “The effective fervent prayers of a righteous man avails much.”  With what is happening in our world today, we need God’s guidance!
This event will feature, as stated, prayers and songs of praise rendered by members of the churches in this area.  The service will be to culminate 2014-2015 of the Task Force, until September.  The work of the Port Arthur Citizens Drug Task Force action committee was organized in 1991 to help the people in our communities curb the use of illegal drugs.  Illegal drug use affects all of us!  The use of drugs, alcohol, and nicotine causes the deaths of thousands of people in this country.  One report of drug abuse states that the tax paying public is spending billions of dollars each year because of illegal drug use.  Making folks aware of this and doing all we can to curb the flow of and use of these substances is the focus of the DTF.
At our meetings each month, the members are given information about the problems, as well as some of the things that are needed to help fix the problems.  Yes, our main agenda is to educate the community.  The committee meets the second Monday of each month from September through May on the fifth floor of City Hall, and the Annual Prayer and Praise Service is held in June at different churches of all denominations throughout the area.  Persons and teens are welcome to come at all times.  We also invite persons from the schools and all over the community to join us.
We realize divine intervention is mandatory.  Ministers, city leaders, and members of the community are asked to join hearts and souls for Prayer and Praise 2015.  Letters to local churches have been written asking them to participate in this effort.  Remember, it is to be at the United Methodist, 4101 Highway 73, Port Arthur, Texas on June 28, 2015, at 7 p.m.! We are also asking those in this area to please come and join us!
