As a resident on Jade Avenue, in Port Acres, I wish to thank the Mayor, City Council, Port Arthur Police Department, and a very special thank you to Council Member at Large, Deloris Prince, for the job well done for the safety of the residents on Jade Avenue, and the school children going to and from Dowling Elementary. Thank you so very much for the extra patrolling done to slow traffic, and a big thank you for the stop signs at 59th and Jade, and 63rd and Jade.
I understand there have been complaints filed over the installment of the stop signs, and I sure wish these complainers lived on Jade. My comments to anyone unhappy with the stop signs on Jade Avenue, just kept on driving until you get to West Port Arthur Road, and use that route to travel. Speed limit is 40 mph, and only 1 stop sign.
I have lived here on Jade Avenue since September of 1969. Over the years, I have seen the traffic increase, and the speeding being a big problem. Trying to get out of your driveway takes a lot of caution and patience. Going to your mail box, you had better wait for traffic to pass, because no one slows down for pedestrians.
I realize this is 2006, but Port Acres is still a residential area, and we hope to keep it that way. You can get city mode of traffic on West Port Arthur Road. Since the stop signs have. been installed, traffic is slowing at 63rd, and I am noticing fewer big trucks. And yes, I do realize there are dump truck drivers living in Port Acres, and I have no problem you driving to and from work each day. I just had a problem with using Jade as a cut across from Texas 73 to FM 365, and vice versa.
Anyone wishing to discuss their disapproval over the stop signs can contact me, if they just need to talk about it. Listed in the phone book, Broussard, on Jade Avenue.
In closing, I wish to give a very special thank you to Debbie Violet for her efforts in securing the safety for the residents of Jade Avenue.
