Thank you Port Arthur! The family and I wish to express our sincere appreciation for the many expressions of sympathy and well wishes during the recent illness and passing of Donna Worthington.
Donna was a true friend to so many Port Arthurian — former and current. Her interest varied from education, athletics, church, Mardi Gras and the Port Arthur High School Graduate Museum.
So many employees of PAISD felt she would listen to their concerns. Athletics was an important part of Donna's life. She not only coached girl's sports, she was also interested and involved in boy's sports as well. She was genuinely interested and enjoyed football because of the excitement and the school spirit and traditions that she was involved in during her school years.
When the enrollment of PAISD begin to drop and consolidation of the high schools was evident, she began to organize and plan the birth of the Port Arthur High School Graduate Museum, including the current high schools, as well as, the high schools that had already closed. She wanted to preserve the memorabilia, traditions and spirit of all the high schools of Port Arthur. She was named the curator of the museum at that time.
Her love for Thomas Jefferson High School, as well as the other high schools, was at the heart of her interest. Donna's dedication and devotion to St. James Church will be missed by the members of the Saturday 4 p.m. Mass. She was an active member and devoted to visiting shut-ins.
Second to Christmas, Donna's favorite time of the year was Mardi Gras, enjoying all the various activities, events and opening up the Graduate Museum so home town and out of town guest could travel down memory lane. We will all miss Donna's friendly smile, her sincere concerns and love for her family and friends, that contagious laugh and that twinkle in her blue eyes. We all are aware of her dedication to Port Arthur and she will continue to be a part of our lives by watching over all of us.
A special and gracious 'Thank You' to the media and the news papers for their kindness and thoughtfulness shown.
Memorials may be made in her honor to the Port Arthur High School Graduate Museum at PO Box 1217, Port Arthur, Texas 77641.
