Published January 26, 2007 11:43 am - Once upon a time, there was a small Credit Union in the area.  It was not located in the prettiest part of town, but the staff there was friendly and knew your name.
Then the Credit Union began to grow and it built a cold, white brick building in the center of town for all to see.  The staff still knew your name, but as it continued to grow, the Credit Union became less and less friendly.
Then it outgrew even its newest location and expanded again.  This time, the staff was put behind glass walls and out of the public's view.  And the atmosphere became less and less inviting and the staff became impersonal.  In its quest to grow, it merged with another Credit Union, then another and suddenly, the members were no longer people, just account numbers.
Then, the proverbial velvet rope was put in front of the teller's counter to keep the members back until called to come forward.  And the atmosphere became almost indifferent.  Very few of the nice people who knew your name in the old days are left.  Isn't progess wonderful!
