From the other side of organ donation

I was touched by the article on the front page of The Port Arthur News regarding the donation of several organs to others subsequent to the demise of Brandon Oliver, the son of Mrs. Pat Robertson.
My perspective however, is on the opposite end of the spectrum, as my son Christopher received an organ four years ago. This gift came after my 19-year-old son had been on dialysis for 2 1/2 years. I did write to the organ donor family and wanted to talk with them, however a response never came.
In the letter I told them about how the gift they decided to give was life saving, and how this gift provided a means for Christopher to continue college and to graduate in December, 2006. He is able to work and he does not have to go to dialysis treatments three times a week.
He now moves about without having restrictions placed on his time for dialysis. Also, being a young person, he feels well enough to do things like play football, basketball, etc., as well as be with his friends who have supported him throughout his illness.
I would like Mrs. Robertson to know that the choice she made was an unselfish act. The decision she made through her precious son, Brandon, was not in vain; she possibly helped another mother's son or daughter continue to live. I will pray for you Mrs. Robertson as well as the organ donor family I have not been privileged to meet. Thanks to you and may God continue to bless you and your family.
