Mid-County attempts to raise army of 10,000 to help Bridge City
The Port Arthur News
A WEEKEND FOR BRIDGE CITY!
Who does this involve? All willing citizens of Groves, Nederland and Port Neches.
What is the event? Saturday 'MID COUNTY MADNESS' - PNG vs. Nederland football game, Sunday volunteer day.
When does it happen? 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4; 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5
Where do I go? Nederland Bulldog Stadium Saturday, Assignment locations TBA Sunday.
Why is this being done? To encourage volunteers to work in Bridge City for 5 hours on one day.
How will it work? Once a team is assembled they are to choose a captain and send the captain only to one of the many assignment locations throughout the Mid County area that will be announced in the near future. If you are an individual that wants to serve, then again, you will go to one of the assignment locations where you will be placed on a team and given your assignment. We encourage volunteers to work a 5 hour shift sometime between the hours of 9 am – 6 pm. If you are ready to commit a team to this endeavor please call 962-4461 or email office@fbcgroves.org and leave your team name and a contact phone number. Individuals do not need to call, just show up at an assignment location near you.
FAQs:
1- What will we be doing? Simply asking the homeowners what their needs are and seeing if your group can meet any of those needs. It may be to remove wet furniture and household items, pull up flooring, tear out sheetrock or clean up the yard. This is the same thing many work organizations, church and civic volunteers have been doing already - we just want to encourage a single day to volunteer.
2 – What should I wear? Work boots/sturdy shoes, long pants/long sleeve shirts, work and rubber gloves, hat, safety glasses/goggles, clothes to get dirty, mask.
3 – What should I bring? Lunch, snacks and water for yourself or team for the day.
4 – What tools should I bring? Hand tools such as hammer, flat or pry bar, shovel, wheel barrow, dolly (no power tools).
5 – Who can go and how do I sign up? Call 962-4461 or email office@fbcgroves.org to sign up your team. This is simply an effort to encourage those who would volunteer to serve in Bridge City to do it on this day. We encourage people to organize teams of about 20 persons or less (from work, school, church, friends, etc.). We encourage those under age 18 to go with parents or adult led groups. 6 – How will we know what to do? If you already have a person or home to help in Bridge City go there! Volunteers needing direction will be sent to specific streets or areas to volunteer. We encourage cleanup work only. We encourage group leaders and volunteers to ask homeowners to prove all electrical and gas power, as well as water are turned off before beginning any work.
7 – Who is sponsoring this event? There is no municipal authority, school district, public or private organization holding this event. It is simply a grass roots movement to connect volunteers to the needs in Bridge City. Those volunteering assume the same risk as they would with any volunteer effort.
