Peter Lembessis, public information officer with the Federal Emergency Management Agency said the process has begun for residents in Jefferson and Orange Counties who have lost their homes and qualify to receive mobile homes while their homes are being rebuilt or repaired.
Lembessis said FEMA cannot announce where the mobile homes will be placed for privacy reasons, but mobile homes will start to be delivered in the two counties. FEMA coordinates with the state of Texas who tells FEMA where to place the trailers.
He added the beginning of the programs will be “really small” and FEMA can’t provide mobile homes for everyone right away. Deliveries of the mobile homes will continue for the next few weeks. FEMA no longer operates a travel trailer programs as they did for Rita and Katrina.
The government mandates the mobile homes must contain under 40 parts per one billion for formaldehyde.
Lembessis reminded applicants to call 1-800-621-FEMA to see if they qualified for the mobile home program.
