Central Mall
Central Mall in Port Arthur will reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Valero escapes significant damage
A crew has conducted an initial assessment of the Valero St. Charles Refinery near New Orleans and has found no significant structural damage to operational units, Bill Day, director of media relations, reported late Monday.
The plant currently has operational electrical power, but the state of the Entergy power grid is uncertain at this point. A more complete survey of the plant will begin tomorrow, and at that point the refinery management will develop a restart plan.
We do not have a timetable for when restart might commence. We are committed to taking the amount of time necessary to ensure that the refinery units are started safely and reliably.
The Port Arthur, Texas City and Houston refineries remain at reduced rates. Our Corpus Christi plants are currently operating at planned rates. Valero's company-operated retail stores in Southern Louisiana should begin reopening tomorrow morning.
Motiva runs at minimum rates
The Motiva Port Arthur Refinery contines to staff its Emergency Operation Center, and continues to run at minimum rates and supplying product to customers, Verna Rutherford, public relations spokesperson, reported late Monday.
The refinery will ramp up to full production safely and as quickly as possible, pending the availability of resources.
Operators, Lab personnel and Fire Department employees should call their supervisors for a return to work schedule. They should not report to the refinery until talking with their supervisor. It is anticipated that return to normal schedules will begin Wednesday (9/3) as employees become available.
Maintenance and inspection department employees should contact their supervisors and should report for work Wednesday.
All other office and support staff should report for work on their regular schedule Wednesday.
Beginning Wednesday morning, there are no plans for housing or catering services at the refinery.
Conn's to reopen closed stores in La., Texas
Conn's Inc., which operates a chain of home appliance stores, said most of the stores it closed in Louisiana and Texas due to Hurricane Gustav will reopen Tuesday.
The storm hit the shores of Louisiana west of New Orleans Monday morning as a Category 2 hurricane.
Conn's said it closed its six stores in Louisiana and shut four stores in southeast Texas on Saturday to prepare for the storm. Conn's also was able to relocate its corporate headquarters' personnel to Houston and Dallas before the storm hit.
The company said it will reopen any stores that can not be opened today “as soon as conditions are safe for a return.” Despite the store closures, the company said it expects slightly positive same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year, for August.
Same-store sales is a key indicator of retailer performance since it measures growth at existing locations rather than newly-opened ones.
VA outpatient clinics to reopen Wednesday

All VA personnel are required to report for their normal tour of duty on Wednesday, September 3, 2008.
If you have a life-threatening emergency, immediately call 911. Veterans who need medical advice may also call the VA Network Telecare Center Hotline at (713) 794-8985 or toll-free 1-800-639-5137.
