Badon to keep seat on Groves City Council

— Sidney Badon Jr. will keep his seat on Groves City Council for another two years.

Badon pulled in 330 votes or 62.74 percent of the total ballots cast. His opponent, Rob Vensel brought in 196 votes or 37.26 percent of the total vote.

Badon took a 40 vote lead with early voting with 142 votes to Vensel’s 102 votes and the race remained close until all votes were tallied.

“I’m happy to be back and very excited about serving two more years,” Badon said. “I’m anxious to work with my former councilmembers and a new councilmember.”

James Rasa Jr., ran unopposed and will take the Ward No. 1 seat which was vacated when longtime councilmember Dr. Joseph P. Arisco announced he would not run for reelection.

Badon, 57, is a bricklayer by trade and has served as the Ward 3 city councilmember for six years. He also spent four years serving on the city’s planning and zoning commission prior to being elected to council and he has served on the Groves Economic Development Corporation for five years.

Badon is married to Melinda and they have four children and five granddaughters. He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Arthur and is part of the ACTS group at the church.
