Badon seeks to keep his spot on Groves Council

GROVES — Sidney Badon Jr. has enjoyed his six years serving as Groves Ward 3 city councilmember and wants to continue his service to the citizens of the city.

Badon, 57, is seeking re-election in hopes of keeping his seat for another two years.

When asked why he was running for re-election, Badon kept the answer simple.

“I enjoy working for our city and helping keep the town safe and prosperous,” he said.

He believes his devotion to the city and his experience with council and city budgets are a plus.

A bricklayer by trade, Badon spent four years serving on the city’s planning and zoning commission prior to being elected to council and he has served on the Groves Economic Development Corporation for five years. He has seen much progress in the city from the removal of dangerous structures to work on budgets and more.

“The council voted to remove 198 homes that were deemed dangerous structures. Those were replaced by 185 new homes,” Badon said.

Badon worked with the police department on its budget to keep them updated with new technology and keep a competitive pay scale in order to protect the citizens of the city, he said.

He also worked with the fire department’s need for equipment in order to keep up to standards while performing their duties, he added.

Also during his time on council the police department was awarded a Port Security Grant that will pay a majority of the cost of a new emergency operations center which is currently under construction at Main Avenue and Washington Street. The multi-purpose facility will later house Groves Police Department/municipal court/emergency operations center with the city kicking in a portion of the funding.

Land was also purchased on land adjacent to the site for future development of a new fire station.

Badon is married to Melinda and they have four children and five granddaughters. He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Arthur and is part of the ACTS group at the church.
