Hogaboom Road gets facelift

GROVES — Motorists traveling along Hogaboom Road will likely experience some inconvenience for the next few weeks as crews work to rebuild the heavily utilized street.

Construction workers will tackle the project in two block increments and are currently working between Whitaker and Alabama.

Groves City Manager D. Sosa said the city is working closely with Jefferson County Precinct 2, Huntsman and the Texas Department of Transportation in diverting some of the heavy truck traffic.

“In the meantime, we’ve contacted all of the trucking companies (who use the road) and told them they need to access Hogaboom from FM 366,” Sosa said. “About 99 percent will be using FM 366 to get to the Wilson Avenue gate.”

Sosa said the diversion of traffic will reduce truck traffic by 75 percent.

The cost of the project has been worked into the city’s streets budget with Port Neches kicking in the cost of materials for the portion that is in their city and Groves paying for its portion.

The city of Groves and the county will provide the labor.

Sosa gave kudos to all of the entities involved in the project for being “tremendously cooperative.”

“This (rebuilding of the road) is needed to improve the safety and peace of mind and well being of the residents along Hogaboom as well as the motorists,” Sosa added.
