Patxot named Groves Mother of the Year

GROVES — When Kristi Patxot’s husband became ill and temporarily unable to work earlier this year, the mom of three who’s pregnant with their fourth child, stepped up to the plate.

Patxot went from working a few days a week at Classic Hair Studio, owned by her mother, Phyllis Mayea, to working every day of the week. That’s not all though — she even bakes and sells her own bread.

Her dedication to her family does not go unnoticed. Her husband, Feliciano “Felix” Patxot, penned a letter straight from his heart nominating Kristi for Groves Mother of the Year. On Friday, he had the chance to share the letter with her during a luncheon at Larry’s French Market and Cajun Restaurant.

Felix Patxot, who normally delivers in Groves for UPS, suffered a seizure on Jan. 18, and learned that he must go six months without a seizure before he can get behind the wheel of a vehicle. He was forced to file for disability and now earns about one-fourth of his normal wages, he said.

“When that happened, instead of falling apart or feeling sorry for our situation, my wife, mother of three , pregnant with her fourth, began to secure her families well being and made sure we would have the money we needed for everyday items by going to work every day of the week, Monday through Sunday, as well as baking bread from scratch and going all over to people who wanted to buy it,” Felix Patxot said while surrounded by family, friends and members of the Groves Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Center. “All this my wife was doing while also shuttling kids back and forth to school then home again and driving me where I have to go.”

With long curly hair and wearing a special necklace  with a charm that says “Due in June” given to her by her mother at Christmas, Kristi Patxot smiles and laughs at the praise coming from all directions. Other moms have done more, she protested.

Mayea gave her daughter a smile before shedding some insight into the situation.

“I am so proud, she’s so deserving,” Mayea said. “She burns the candle at both ends. She’s remarkable in that she can juggle and multi-function so many things.”

The proud husband and father told of how Kristi “continues to steal his heart everyday” and  he “will do the best to give her the love and respect she deserves.”

The Patxot’s are parents to Scarlett Josephine Patxot, 6, Feliciano Joseph Patxot,  5 — born 10 months apart and Lilliana Juliet Patxot, 2. The couple are expecting another daughter around June 13.
