Groves Library book sale, raffle in full swing

GROVES —  Judy Hebert loves a good book sale.

Carrying a small box to a table, Hebert waited for her soon-to-be purchased books to be tallied at Groves Public Library.

“I come as often as I can. I love the book sales,” Judy Hebert said. “This is my chance. I love to get cookbooks that I would never pay full price for.”

Hebert also snaps up gardening books and Westerns as well, she said.

The reason for the shopping is the Friends of Groves Public Library Book Sale.

The sale is open to the public Thursday and Friday, Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 during regular library hours and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 26.

There will also be a raffle of two baskets of chocolate and a Taste of Fall. One ticket will win it all.

The basket includes: 20 pounds of chocolate, fall table runner, picture frame, seasonal yard angel, passion cookbook, pumpkin decor, journals, cake stand, fall candy dish, note cards and note pads, vintage candle holder and candle, seasonal magazines, luxurious throw and the book The Apple Orchard by S. Wiggs.

Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Drawing will be Oct. 30.

Marty Godwin, a member of the Friends group, said the raffle is very successful at this point in time. Proceeds from the book sale and fundraiser item are used to support and promote the Groves Public Library, she added.

Joanie Fortune thumbed through a hardback book, her grandson Ethan Hull at her side. She shops at the library every time they host a book sale.

“I look for authors I like and always search for new authors to read,” Fortune said. “I’ve been coming to this library  for 30 years and used to bring my children for Storytime. Now, their dad is 34 and I’m bringing his 2-year-old.”

Nealie Hebert browsed through titles of books on tapes.

“I go to every sale they have. I like books on tape. I’m too lazy to read,” Nealie Hebert said with a laugh.

The Friends of Groves Public Library is also promoting a picnic table fundraiser being held by the Library. Tickets for a chance at the picnic table at 3 for $5 or $2 each.

The library is located at 5600 West Washington in Groves.
