Chic business is growing in Groves

GROVES — Chic is the word in Groves of late.

The mother-daughter team of Ginger Harrison and Candice Harrison have combined forces and businesses to create The Shops of Chic Boulevard. Located at 6159 39th St., the newly created business is a conglomeration of Baby Chic, Fleur de Chic and Savvy Chic Salon and Spa.

Mom Ginger Harrison handles the salon and spa portion of the business that offers hair, nails, massage, facials and spray tans. The other portion of the building, separated by French doors which are always open to allow patrons access to both sections, features children’s items in the center and adult items along the walls. Stylish colored walls and vivid patterns are the decor of choice and smoothly move from room to room.

But for both of the Harrison’s it’s all about “community unity.”

The idea of combining businesses has been in the works for some time. Ginger taught cosmetology at Lamar State College-Port Arthur wanted to open a salon when her daughter opened her boutique in Orange. Later the boutiques moved to Groves on nearby Lincoln Avenue.

“We figured nothing would work better than to combine the businesses,” Candice Harrison said. “People in Groves love them some savvy and some chic.”

The Chic business participates in a first Thursday of the month event where they teach fashion tips, showcase new lines, enjoy a meal and have fun.

“We cater the event,” the daughter said. “We have food and fun and it’s almost like mommies night out.”

Vendors are welcome to take part in the monthly event, the duo said, and there are specials going on where civil servants which include retired and active military as well as city and state personnel, receive discounts.

The Shops of Chic Boulevard will also host a Trunk or Treat and Harvest Wonderland from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 26. There will be candy, pumpkin painting, bobbing for apples, face painting and an award for best costume.
