Groves Chamber officer retires By Amy Moore The Port Arthur News GROVES — Thursday, the board of directors for the Groves Chamber of Commerce regretfully accepted the resignation of Executive Manager, Patti Wolfe, after seven years of dedicated service to the city of Groves.
Wolfe, who moved to Groves 31 years ago, said it was just time for her to move on in her life. “I thoroughly enjoyed the job,” she said via a telephone interview Thursday. “Groves is a wonderful community to represent and promote and be proud of,” she added. Wolfe said she discussed the idea with her husband, Kirby, several times before making the final decision. Christa Hollier, president of the chamber, said the board really appreciates Wolfe’s time, service and dedication to her position. Hollier also said the board wants to make sure to make the rights steps in choosing the replacement for Wolfe and will take baby steps in the process. Wolfe said the person who comes needs to have their heart in Groves. “It’s an enjoyable job where you are always smiling, but you have to be dedicated,” she said. Hollier said that Barbara Smithy, Wolfe’s assistant, has agreed to help during the transition from one manager to the next. Next week the board will begin accepting applications for the position, which Wolfe agreed to hold until the end of the month. “I know that Groves will be taken care of with people like Kaye Jones around,” said Wolfe. “I just need a vacation since I’ve got two grandbabies on the way.” Wolfe said she misses the job already, but isn’t moving out of town so will still be around to attend festivals and other Groves events.
