PORT ARTHUR — The playoff picture of District 20-4A is pretty simple when it comes to trying to determine the four teams to play in the upcoming postseason.
Nederland is in for the 18th time in Larry Neumann’s 21 seasons with the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs can wrap up the District 20-4A title. A win Friday against Lumberton guarantees the Bulldogs at least a share of the championship. Central and Nederland finish the year with a game in Beaumont which could decide if the Bulldogs win 20-4A outright.
LC-M is in the playoffs for the first time since 1997. Kudos to Coach Randy Crouch and his Battlin’ Bears who over the past several years always seemed to be so close to the playoffs but could not get over the hump.
Beaumont Central is in under first-year coach Toby Foreman. Foreman is no stranger to winning after many years spent as an assistant at West Orange-Stark. Foreman and the Jaguars can still win a share of the district title.
The last spot will come down to the PN-G Indians and Beaumont Ozen. Luckily the two teams play Friday so the fourth spot can be clinched by this weekend. PN-G faces Livingston in Week 10 and Ozen has winless Lumberton. Let’s assume both the Indians and Panthers win in Week 10 so it can be figured this Friday is for the spot.
