Sauceda, Fowler in ’Don’t mess with Texas’ spots

AUSTIN — Grammy-winning Tejano star Sunny Sauceda and country singer Kevin Fowler have joined the “Don’t mess with Texas” anti-litter campaign.

The Texas Department of Transportation says Sauceda and Fowler are the latest entertainers featured in the effort to keep roadways clean.

The Fowler public service announcement unveiled Monday shows a red, white and blue garbage can painted with the slogan: “Will sing for trash.”

The Sauceda spot is in Spanish and English and shows the accordion-playing entertainer and his band singing and dancing as people throw garbage into a bin.

TxDOT has credited the iconic “Don’t mess with Texas” campaign, which started in 1986, with helping to reduce visible highway trash by more than a third since 2009.

Other anti-litter campaign performers have included George Strait and Lyle Lovett.
