Heath Ledger returns to the screen, with a little help from his friends

A newly released documentary on Heath Ledger has just one major error, it fails to mention the late star will appear in Terry Gilliam's "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” to be released this Christmas.....more>>

  • Transformers II leaves audience yearning for third film
Sam’s Autobot follows him to college. That’s college life in “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.”

  • Jackson documentary shows 'Devotion
Before “Michael Jackson’s This is It,” hits theaters Oct. 28, catch a glimpse of the story behind the man in “Devotion: An Unauthorized Tribute to Michael Jackson.”

  • Rolling Stones doc doesn’t miss a beat
The Documentary “Rock of Ages: An unauthorized story on the Rolling Stones” covers all the bases from the band’s infancy to the Martin Scorsese documentary of the Stones. It could easily be titled: Everything you ever wanted to know about the Stones but were afraid to ask.

  • Cyrus typical American girl worth $1 billion
Miley Cyrus is just a typical American teenager, who happens to have the highest rated show on the Disney Channel and a net worth of about $1 billion.
Cyrus takes that all in stride, based on a new DVD “The World According to Miley Cyrus: An Unauthorized Story.”

  • No heat in this South Pole thriller
Despite the presence of an A-list cast and a critically acclaimed graphic novel as source material, the Antarctic-based thriller “Whiteout” fails to deliver any heat. The plot is predictable, the acting and screenplay are sub-par, and there are crucial moments in the movie where the filmmakers are so concerned with living up to the film’s title that it’s almost impossible to see what’s happening up on the screen.

  • Soap actor "uglies up" for killer role
    Special to the News
Antonio Sabato Jr. had to “ugly himself up” to play the role of a serial killer in “Drifter: Henry Lee Lucas,” recently released on DVD.
Sabato, who may be best remembered for his roles on “Melrose Place,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “General Hospital,” said he was elated when he was offered the role of Lucas. It gave him the opportunity to stretch his wings as an actor. After reading the script he said he had to meet the director, Michael Feifer, who directed “B.T.K.”

  • “9” for the animation. “4” for the story
If you’re a grown up video gamer who enjoys “Little Big Planet” but would rather run your Sack Boy characters through more mature levels, you’ll get a kick out of “9,” an artistically impressive but ultimately pointless animated adventure.

  • Bromance leaves you laughing
Who knew that a bromance — a story about two close male friends — could be so funny? The cast and crew of “I Love You, Man” apparently did.

  • Tarantino goes to War
Quentin Tarantino’s films have always been a complicated mix of kicky exploitation cinema, film-fanatic arrogance and pure B-Movie fanboy adoration.

  • ‘Bandslam’ hits all the right notes
As I spent my weekend trying to catch up on a bumper crop of new movies, I must admit that I was more than a little surprised that a dumb-looking teen musical would prove to be one of the weekend's best movie options. When I say “one of the best options,” I'm speaking about all audiences and not just teenagers looking for some last-minute fun before they all head back to school.

  • New “Joe” is just so-so
I must say that I was a bit disappointed by “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.” At no point in the movie did one of the Joes kidnap Barbie and rip off her head while my sister screams in the background.

  • Recycling pays off for Hollywood
In Hollywood, recycling can be good thing; especially when it comes to the movies.

  • Streep cooks up another winner
Hopefully I’m not breaking any news here, but dang, that Meryl Streep sure can act.

  • Battling Aliens: What I did on my summer vacation
When a movie studio decides not to screen a film for the critics, it's generally a sure-fire sign that they know that they have a stinker on their hands. So when I paid my way into a screening of “Aliens in the Attic” this past weekend, I was sure that I was setting myself up for an hour and a half of sheer torture.
