Anderson Silva has elevated himself to impressive status

Anderson "The Spider" Silva has cemented himself as the Roy Jones Jr. of mixed martial arts. After dispatching PRIDE middleweight champion, Dan Henderson at UFC 82, Silva has decimated virtually all of his competition in the UFC.
The Spider is now 6-0 against some quality mixed martial artists in the UFC. Henderson was perhaps the last competitor to have a good shot at winning against Silva. Henderson did perform a feat rarely achieved against Silva. He actually won a round.
After taking Silva down and gaining position on top, Henderson rained dozens of hammer fists upon Silva's head. Henderson also disrupted Silva's breathing pattern by holding his hand over his mouth and nose periodically. This is a technique that's used to fatigue an opponent and Henderson utilized it to perfection.
It wasn't a completely dominant round by Henderson, but nonetheless, it was a round that Silva didn't win which is worth writing about.
In the second round Silva woke up. He came out moving more quickly and in attack mode. Silva's known for his Muay Thai stand up attack with flying knees and kicks. But perhaps his most potent weapon is his body triangle.
In grappling matches, Silva uses his long legs and flexibility to wrap and lock his legs around his opponent's body at their waist. He utilized this jiu-jitsu technique to control Henderson and secure the victory with a rear naked choke.
Who's next for Anderson Silva? Although he doesn't appear to have any real competition in the middleweight division with a realistic chance of winning, an intriguing answer may have come from a bout that occurred earlier in the evening. Yushin Okami spoiled the return of veteran former UFC middleweight champion, Evan Tanner, by knocking him out with a knee in the second round.
Okami is now regarded as the top middleweight contender in the UFC. Although he's arguably a notch below Silva in talent and skill, Okami's got something over Silva - a victory in their head to head match-up.
You see, Silva's last loss came to the hands of Yushin Okami two years ago in a smaller MMA organization due to a disqualification . Silva landed an illegal kick to Okami while Okami’s knees were still down to the ground.
Remember, doctors dissected the sport years ago which lead to sanctioned rules to prevent permanent or serious injury. This illegal kick and subsequent loss by Silva will add some intrigue should the fighters rematch in the UFC.
In earlier action on the UFC 82 card, Cheick Kongo blew his shot at a title bout by losing a tight three round decision to Heath "The Texas Crazy Horse" Herring. The UFC will now have to scramble to find a heavyweight opponent for champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to defend against.
As expected, Andrei Arlovski's victory was not aired that night which appears to be a preface to the top ranked heavyweight’s departure from the UFC.
Jon Fitch continued his eight-bout winning streak, albeit not impressively, with his three round decision victory over UFC newcomer and relative no-name, Chris Wilson. Fitch hasn't been able to finish half of his opponents in the UFC and has had to rely on judges to make the call.
This is a far cry from the UFC's big three in the welterweight division - Matt Hughes, Matt Serra, and Georges "Rush" St.Pierre, who continually dispatch of their opponents decisively.
Between action at the event, Mark "The Hammer" Coleman joined the likes of Royce Gracie and Dan Severn by getting inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. Like Gracie, Coleman announced that he is not retiring, but in fact is come back to the UFC to face former WWE superstar, Brock Lesnar.
