The Port Arthur News
Lamar State College-Port Arthur will present five free-admission “Port Arthur Live!” music concerts this spring featuring three bands comprised of student musicians and vocalists enrolled in the Commercial Music - Session Musician associate degree program.
The Session Musician program, one of the fastest-growing at the college, is designed to teach students how to be versatile professional musicians with the ability to play a wide variety of musical styles, both on stage and in the recording studio.
“Port Arthur Live!” concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Hall, 1700 Lakeshore Drive on the Lamar State campus.
The 200-seat Music Hall has in-house sound and lighting systems and is an excellent setting for live music with all seats close to the stage.
The spring concerts begin Thursday, Feb. 24, with “Staples” performed by the LSC-PA touring band, Section 51.
Students audition to join the Session Musician program and then compete for a place in the touring band.
This semester's touring band includes Adam Crawford (vocals), Elora Mitchell (vocals), Chris Martin (vocals), Gary Walker (vocals), Zach Gonzales (guitar), Patrick Landry (guitar), Levell Hawkins (keyboards), Aaron Sterling (bass guitar) and Ryan Johnson (drums).
Other spring “Port Arthur Live!” dates are:
March 24 - “Rhythm of the Islands” featuring the One Spot band
March 31 - “Motown Memories” featuring Smooth Progressions
April 7 -- “Stage Star” featuring Section 51 and student, faculty and staff guest performers
April 28 -finale concert, “Movin' Out,” featuring all three bands
