DPS urges safe holiday driving

PORT ARTHUR — Many travelers are expected to hit Texas roadways for the Thanksgiving Holidays.  Texas Highway Patrol Troopers will be patrolling for speeders, drivers who are intoxicated and those who are not properly secured by safety restraints, Stephanie David of the Beaumont Division of the DPS said.

The priority at DPS is to reduce the number of traffic fatalities and increase traffic safety on all Texas highways by increasing the number of Troopers on the patrol.

The Texas Department of Public Safety encourages all drivers to obey the traffic laws which were designed to keep them safe.  In Texas, drivers and passengers must wear seatbelts.  Children younger than 8 years old or 4 feet 9 inches tall must be in a child safety seat system (car seat or booster).  Seatbelt use is one of the most effective ways to prevent serious bodily injury during a crash and reduce the number of traffic fatalities.

The Texas Highway Patrol would like to wish everyone a safe and joyous Thanksgiving Holiday.
