NEDERLAND — The Rotary Club of Nederland recently hosted a 50th Anniversary celebration at the Texas Artists Museum in Port Arthur.

The Rotary Club of Nederland was chartered in February of 1961 & hosted by the Groves Rotary Club.  Special guests included District Governor Rose Austin, District Governor Elect Ulli Budelmann, and representatives of other local Rotary clubs.  All past presidents of the Rotary Club of Nederland were recognized.  The guest speaker was Alex Broussard, past District Governor.

The Nederland club has played an integral part in the history and development of District 5910,producing a district governor, Janis Shaw, in the 1999-2000 Rotary year. Additional district leaders have emerged from the club as well. Currently, Mike Casey is serving as an assistant governor, and President Bobby Simon, served as GSE Inbound Chair last year.

The club has had a successful year, inducting several new members, receiving numerous awards at the district conference: the presidential citation, community and vocational service awards as well as contributing $100 or more per capita to The Rotary Foundation.
