Fast fact: Montroy loves knitting, crochet and sewing clothes.

George obviously dotes on his wife, Carol Montroy. He pointed out the billowing centerpiece of flowers on the dining room table. It honored her 80th birthday and still has the ribbon to prove it. Sunday Carol Montroy turned 86, but the pair still keep the other flowers to remember.

The couple married late in life and Mr. Montroy says he loves to give her anything he can, because she grew up without financial comforts.

“He just likes to do that,” Mrs. Montroy said.

They’re both volunteers spreading the gospel to Port Cities Rescue Mission clients, who may have never heard the word.

“It’s a joy of sharing the Lord’s work,” Montroy said. “It’s very important because so many street people don’t know the Lord.”

A member of First Baptist Church of Groves, she is an avid yarn crafter.

“I like to be busy,” Montroy said. “The past 10 years, I have been crocheting , mostly Afghans. A sweet lady taught me how to crochet what is called ‘the window pane.’ I have lost track of the ones I have made, mostly for baby gifts, wedding and anniversaries.”

“This was a gift from God,” she said. “My grandmother taught me how to knit. I knitted a sweater for a GI in World War II.”
