What would a wedding be without your cheap, wild relatives showing up?
These characters will show up when Port Arthur Little Theatre will present “Dearly Beloved” at the Courtyard Cafe in Groves.
Ann Holland will play Twink, sister to Honey Raye and to Frankie, who is planning her daughter’s wedding.
“Twink is the middle of three sisters. Twink is very thrifty in nature. Unbeknownst to Frankie, she has organized a pot luck for the wedding and is having the meat donated and is building a fire pit behind the church,” Holland said.
“Oh, I would probably freak out if it was done to me,” Holland said, imagining a wedding with a side of beef and two pigs.
But she said she loves the role.
“Actually, this is probably the funniest script I have ever read. I like not only the role, but the play, because the people are similar to the people in the south Georgia town where I grew up … even the names. And all the people are so funny,” Holland said.
“Dearly Beloved’s sequel, “Christmas Belles,” is scheduled as a main stage PALT production in December. She said she doesn’t know who will play Twink then.
“We have to re-audition,” she said.
Rose Moon is slated to direct the second show. Actor Benny Bryan is directing “Dearly Beloved.”
“This is Benny’s first show to direct and he has done a great job,” Holland said.
Roxane Gray describes her character of Honey Raye as someone still looking for love after several husbands.
“She’s kind of the black sheep of the family,” Gray said.
