UPDATE: PA officer OK after being struck by vehicle

PORT ARTHUR — UPDATE: Friday, Nov. 30

The injured Port Arthur PD officer was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital were he was treated and later released with minor injuries, according to a press release from PAPD. Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the scene and conducted the investigation.

The driver of the vehicle was a 16-year-old unlicensed driver from Port Arthur and his 86-year-old grandfather was also in the vehicle. There were no injuries reported for the driver or passenger.

A Port Arthur Police officer was struck by a vehicle while assisting a traffic incident late Thursday night.

 The officer, whose name has not been released, was assisting personnel with Texas Department of Transportation at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday., Nov. 29 near the 2700 block of Memorial Boulevard after a truck lost a load in the roadway. The officer was outside his vehicle with the TxDOT employee when a vehicle traveling northbound on Memorial struck the officer, PAPD Lt. Michael Fratus said.

  Fratus said the officer, who was outside of the vehicle when the incident occurred, was conscious and alert. No further information about the officers condition was available by 11 p.m.

  Several blocks of the roadway was closed to traffic and approximately 10 police vehicles were on scene to assist. Port Arthur Fire Department also responded to the scene.
