PORT ARTHUR —
A burglarly suspect in Port Arthur was in for a surprise after returning to the scene of the crime to steal more things from a man’s home.
Port Arthur police were responding to a reported fight on Sunday, Sept 30 at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of Avenue B when they received a second call, informing them that a burglary had occurred and the suspect was being detained by the victim and witnesses.
Once officers arrived they were told by the victim that when he came home around 5 p.m. his home had been broken into and some things had been stolen. After talking with a neighbor he learned that a man had tried to sell some items that were still in his home. Thinking the suspect may return the homeowner decided to hide in the bushes and wait for the thief to return. Shortly after 8 p.m. he saw the suspect return and try to force his way into the home.
When the suspect couldn’t gain access to the home the owner then gave chase, catching the suspect with help from neighbors about a block away.
Officers found evidence on the suspect linking him to the burglary. He was then brought to a local hospital by EMS for treatment of injuries received when he was chased down by the victim and witnesses. After treament the suspect was released into the custody of officers, transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility and booked on Burglary of a Habitation.
